Report: West Brom to Sign Aston Villa Free Transfer Target – originally published on Sportslens.com
West Bromwich Albion to sign Rennes midfielder Clement Grenier for a free transfer this month, a report by Football Insider claims.
The Baggies are looking to strengthen their roster this month and have already received Robert Snodgrass' permanent service from West Ham United.
It is now reported that they are interested in signing Grenier, who has less than six months to complete his contract with Rennes.
The French international was in and out of the line-up at Rennes this season. He has only started seven of his 14 appearances.
Grenier has recently found form with two goals and an assist in the last four games but he was still gotten to go through the exit door.
Rennes is reportedly experiencing financial concerns with its reduced earnings during the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.
So they are trying to cut costs at the turn of the year and it is alleged that Grenier could get a free transfer this month.
The Baggies are desperate for a new striker who can score regular goals and help them avoid relegation from the Premier League.
However, it is tempting to sign Grenier for a free transfer as manager Sam Allardyce wants multiple hits on fresh faces.
Allardyce has personally admitted that the club will be " extremely busy " this month with the Baggies looking disoriented across the field.
The club has suffered five defeats in a row in all competitions under Allardyce. They were recently eliminated on penalties in the third round of the League One Blackpool FA Cup.
The Baggies next face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Black Country Derby in the Premier League, which is another difficult challenge for them.
After 17 league games they are already six points behind safety and have only won one game against Sheffield United for the entire season.
In the meantime, city rivals Aston Villa have also been attributed an interest in Grenier, who has spent almost his entire career in the top French league.
