Report: Manchester United is in talks to sign a trusted and experienced goalscorer – originally published on Sportslens.com
Manchester United is in talks with free agent Edinson Cavani about a possible move accepted into the association. A report by The Daily Mail claims.
The Red Devils have had a quiet transfer window and only one player in midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax
] Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to want to intensify the attack before the transfer deadline on Monday, and so far they are nowhere near signing anyone.
Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho was apparently the club's number one target, but a deal seems unlikely after they refused to meet the price of £ 108m .
It has now turned out that the Mancunian giants have started talks with Cavani, who after leaving Paris Saint-Germain no longer has a contract at the end of Ju ne.
Cavani has been linked to the likes of Atletico Madrid, Benfica and Inter Miami this summer, but none of them have met their wage demands of £ 210,000 a week.
United has the financial means to meet its expectations and the former Napoli man is reported to be aiming for a two-year deal.
Cavani has been a quality striker over the years, having scored 20 or more goals in nine of the last 10 campaigns.
His worst season, however, was the last season, when he only scored seven goals and suffered injuries at different stages of the season.
He is no longer in the prime of his career at 33 and could be a risky signing for United, especially with his fitness problems last year.
On the other hand, it cannot be ignored that he is a proven goalscorer and could make valuable contributions if he can remain unharmed.
