Report: Arsenal is keen on RB Leipzig stars Ibrahima Konate and Christopher Nkunku – originally published on Sportslens.com
According to German news channel Sport Bild RB Leipzig has central defender Ibrahima Konate and Teammate Christopher Nkunku are both on Arsenal's radar as some of the big clubs in Europe identify the club's players as potential transfer targets.
Leipzig managers Julian Nagelsmann and Amadou Haidara, Marcel Sabitzer, Dayot Upamecano and Nordi Mukiele are on the radar of top English clubs, but applicants have to be ready to fulfill their release clauses in order to have a chance.
Image claims Arsenal and other EPL sites are keen on Konate and he currently has a £ 45m buyout clause.
The £ 36million rated Nkunku is only linked to Arsenal in the report, but the former Paris Saint-Germain man definitely has no shortage of suitors given his versatility and quality.
The Gunners will have to part with £ 81million to land the duo, and whether they're willing to pay that much for two young players remains to be seen.
Manager Mikel Arteta's team have conceded ten goals in eight Premier League games in 2020-21, and while this defense is not the most airtight in the country, it could be in January or next summer no other center-back signed on, especially given the opportunities the Spaniard has in the department.
William Saliba, Rob Holding, Gabriel, David Luiz, Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi are the current options for the Arsenal center-back. Konate, 21, could be a good match in the long run, but the north is hard to see Londoners aspiring to get the Frenchman's signature soon.
However, given their struggles in the final third, they could handle Nkunku's creativity.
Arsenal have scored nine league goals so far and they need to improve in front of goal if they are to fight for the big trophies.
Nkunku finished last season with 13 assists and five goals in 32 Bundesliga games, and if he's in their ranks the Gunners could do better.
The 22-year-old was reportedly waiting for Arsenal to take a firm step for him last summer before joining Leipzig from PSG and it will be interesting to see if they finally do so in the future will do
