The biggest injury question marks for fantasy RBs heading into Week 10

Every week in the NFL, there are plenty of bumps and bruises that players have to work through, and Week 10 is no different. However, there are some big questions marks that we need to address, which revolve around key players throughout the league. This includes the likes of Austin Ekeler, Chris Carson, Christian McCaffrey, David Montgomery, Joe Mixon, and Nick Chubb. Below their injury status are more updates on the running backs around the league – those updates are sorted by conference.

Will Austin Ekeler play in Week 10?

Wednesday, November 11: No further updates have been given regarding Austin Ekeler’s status for Week 10.

Tuesday, November 10: Austin Ekeler recently displayed a video on social media that showed he had started running again. Now, Ekeler fans might have been excited by the prospect of his return; unfortunately, he wasn’t ready to suit up in Week 9. Initially reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Chargers’ RB Austin Ekeler suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain during the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It later came out by Ekeler himself during a live stream that part of the tendon essentially ripped off the bone, which is much closer to a Grade 3 injury. Austin Ekeler might be getting closer to playing, but fantasy managers might need to have patience as Week 10 is very much in doubt.

What is RB Chris Carson’s status on the injury report and for your fantasy lineups in Week 10?

Wednesday, November 11: Chris Carson was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report

Tuesday, November 10: After missing each of the team’s last two games due to injuries, the Seahawks could see the return of RB Chris Carson for this week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. On Wednesday’s injury report, Carson was listed as questionable.

Head coach Pete Carroll expressed optimism toward Carson and his progress heading into Week 10, saying, “I had hoped that we would get a look at him last week on Friday. That’s what we had planned to do, it just didn’t work out. So we’ll see as we’re going; it’s encouraging, though.”

Knowing that Chris Carson had a shot at making it onto the field in Week 9 vs. the Bills should give fantasy managers confidence in his availability for Sunday. If Carson cannot make it back, the team will be relying on DeeJay Dallas, Travis Homer, and Alex Collins for another week. Dallas has seen 32 touches for 97 yards and three touchdowns in the last two games. It is worth noting that Carlos Hyde could make his return this week as well.

Will Christian McCaffrey be on the fantasy RB injury report in Week 10?

Wednesday, November 11: According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Panthers’ RB Christian McCaffrey is not expected to play Sunday against Tampa Bay due to a right shoulder injury. McCaffrey will now be considered week to week.

Tuesday, November 10: Here we go again! Just when we thought he was back, Christian McCaffrey has landed back on the injury report for Week 10. And on Wednesday, putting his fantasy status in doubt. After finally making his return from a high ankle sprain in Week 9, McCaffrey is in danger of missing his seventh game of the season due to a shoulder injury that he suffered on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“As of right now, he is listed as day-to-day,” coach Matt Rhule said on Monday as he began preparing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In Week 9, McCaffrey quickly reminded the fantasy world why he was the 1.01 in late-August, rushing 18 times for 69 yards and a touchdown along with 82 yards receiving and another score on ten catches. Christian McCaffrey is one RB that fantasy managers are sick of seeing on the injury report.

Will David Montgomery play in Week 10?

Wednesday, November 11: David Montgomery is still in the concussion protocol.

Tuesday, November 10: Unfortunately for the Bears and fantasy managers in Week 10, David Montgomery’s injury status is up in the air. Montgomery exited Sunday’s game against the Titans in the fourth quarter and has been placed in concussion protocol, according to James Palmer of the NFL Network.

Montgomery will have an extra 24 hours to clear the league’s protocol since the Bears don’t play again until Monday night. Before exiting, David Montgomery was having a typically inefficient day, rushing 14 times for 30 yards and catching three passes for 12 yards.

Will RB Joe Mixon play in Week 10, or will his injury keep him out of fantasy lineups?

Wednesday, November 11: According to reports, Joe Mixon (foot) did not participate in any team drills at practice on Wednesday. We will continue to monitor the situation for more updates.

Tuesday, November 10: Joe Mixon suffered a right foot injury in the first half of Cincinnati’s Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts. The issue sidelined him for the first two practices of Week 7, and in the lead-up to the Bengals’ showdown with the Cleveland Browns, Mixon was at best a limited participant and closed out the week as a non-participant.

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor offered an update on Joe Mixon shortly before the Browns game, saying: “He’s just got a foot injury. We’ll see how this weekend goes. The only thing I’d rule him out for is this game.”

No official updates have been provided to this point, but the Bengals did have a bye week to freshen up after the Titans game, and seeing that Taylor implied in Week 7 that Joe Mixon would be week-to-week, it seems as though he should soon be gearing up to hit the field again. Until then, Gio Bernard will be the running back to play for fantasy.

Will RB Nick Chubb play in Week 10 or continue his stay on the injury report?

Wednesday, November 11: Nick Chubb was not listed on the team’s injury report. Barring any setbacks, it looks like Chubb will be a go for Sunday.

Tuesday, November 10: All signs point to Nick Chubb returning to the RB1 fantasy status this week as the Browns have designated him to return from injured reserve, the team announced MondayMary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer reported that Nick Chubb practiced on Monday while wearing a full knee brace as a precautionary move by the team and their medical staff. Before his injury, Nick Chubb was near the top of the league’s leaderboard in rushing yards with 335 yards and four touchdowns. His six rushes of 20-plus yards still lead the league
